Henry Art Gallery - $20 suggested

The Henry Art Gallery was the first public art museum in Washington state. It was established in 1917 by Horace C Henry. It was originally just a room in his house that he opened to the public for 10 hours a week. In 1927 the museum was opened in its current location on the University of Washington campus. The 1927 building was designed by the firm of Bebb and Gould. In 1997 the museum was expanded. The expansion was designed by the firm of Gwathmey Siegal and Associates.

As far as art museums go, the Henry seems to lean more towards modern works. It is definitely meant to appeal to the student populace (the website especially). I do really like the Henry, on the whole. The art shows are always rather interesting and unique. It is actually somewhat small, all things considered, which may be why it is called a gallery and not a museum. Still, it's worth a visit.
