Arboretum Waterfront Trail - Free

The Arboretum Waterfront Trail is a .75 mile trail that connects the Museum of Science and Industry to the Arboretum visitors center. It includes an observation deck, boardwalks, bridges, and several defunct canoe launches. During the summer (or on generally nice days) these launches are covered in college students.

Between the visitors center and the southern trail head are some very nice open spaces good for wasting time (reading, having a picnic, relaxing, etc.).

The trail skirts Lake Washington, passes under 520, touches Foster Island, and traverses Marsh Island. Even mid-summer the trail gets muddy, but it's still worth visiting on a nice day.

The Marsh Island portion of the trail is, naturally, the muddiest portion of the trail, but it also has an intriguing quality to it. The trees/brush are so dense that it feels like a tunnel.
